Peterborough Enquire About Million Pound Zola
Peterborough United have admitted that they were interested in Crewe striker Calvin Zola but were put off by the £1million price tag.
Rumours of Posh's interest first surfaced a few weeks ago but were dug back up by the Daily Mirror in the week. According to the Mirror, Peterborough were planning a £250,000 swoop for the Congo striker who has 13 goals to his name so far this season.
Peterborough's 'Director of Football' however says reports are wide of the mark after a initial enquiry was abruptly ended once Fry had learnt of Zola's price tag.
Fry told peterboroughtoday.co.uk: 'We have made some enquiries and Zola is a player we asked about.
'I spoke to Dario Gradi at Crewe to see whether they were willing to sell and what the price would be. He told me £1 million so I wished him good luck for the rest of the season and put the phone down!'
It's unlikely anyone will be willing to shell out a million quid for Zola, who is now in a 5 game goal drought, which can only be good news for the Alex. His presence up front - with or without goals - arguably makes him the most important player in the Alex team at the moment.
