Dario Rules Out Return Of Lawrence

Dario says that Dennis Lawrence will not be returning to the club as the Alex manager looks to remedy a ailing defence.

With the 1-2 home defeat to Morecambe, the Alex have now conceded 36 goals in 19 games this season, 24 of which have come in the last 10 games.

New goalkeeper Steve Phillips has so far failed to impress whilst the return of Danny O'Donnell to the centre of defence on Saturday has come in for criticism.

After the Morecambe defeat Dario admitted that changes had to be made with a new central defender now top priority, but it won't mean the return of Dennis Lawrence.

The big Trinidad defender spent last season on loan at Gresty Road, eventually impressing at the heart of the defence. It looked as though a permanent deal was a certainty in the summer but manager Gudjon Thordarson decided on signing Patrick Ada and Mat Mitchel King, giving Lawrence the cold shoulder.

Some would probably say Lawrence would go some way to solving our current defensive woes but Dario says it's a non-starter due to the player's international commitments.

Dario speaking to The Sentinel:

'Dennis Lawrence would come back, but he wants to play for Trinidad and Tobago, so there is no point having him here if he's only going to play half the games.

'But I think if I can get someone I will. We'll look at that possibility.

'In the meantime, I'll continue to work with what I've got because they're certainly not beyond hope.'
