Zola Named PFA Player Of The Month

Calvin Zola has been named PFA Fans' Player Of The Month for October after scoring 5 goals in 4 games.

Zola received 31% of the vote on the PFA website with his closest rival Bournemouth striker Brett Pitman trailing with just 17%.

The award highlights the remarkable turn-around in form for the Congo striker. Last season injuries wrecked his year and his return of 5 goals made it hard for him to justify the £200,000 fee the Alex paid for him.

A summer of hard work later and Zola has taken League Two by storm, justifying every penny of the £200k. Twelve goals in 16 games put him top of the goalscoring charts and looking unstoppable. Last month Dario even claimed we could be looking at a million pound player in Calvin.

Two braces in October during the wins at Cheltenham and Bradford and a consolation goal in the defeat to Rotherham secured the award win for Zola. The only October match he failed to score in was Vale at home, where he was substituted through injury after 35 minutes.

It will also, hopefully, mark the end of the uncalled for abuse Zola gets from a small section of idiotic Alex fans on match day.

Nice one Calvin.
