Dario Resurrects Martin Deal

Crewe are set to sign former trialist Carl Martin today weeks after the young defender was rejected by former manager Gudjon Thordarson.

Martin, formerly of Wealdstone, will put pen to paper on a two and a half year deal with the club this afternoon, joining on a free transfer.

Martin had a trial during Gudjon Thordarson's reign but the right back was sent on his way like so many other trialists in the summer. The 22 year old has since trained with Dagenham & Redbridge but an injury cut short his time there.

With Dario's re-appointment however Martin is set to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional footballer and Dario for one is pleased it's happened.

Speaking to crewealex.net, Dario explained how impressed he was having seen him train earlier in the summer:

'Carl is a player I didn't know much about in the summer. I saw him around the place, but we always had trialists at the training ground. On one of his final days with us, he came to train with the scholars and he was very impressive. Very.

'When I was re-appointed, I asked Neil (Baker) what had happened to him and he found out that he hadn't signed for Dagenham where he was on trial. I then told Neil that we would be interested in him again and he is up today having a medical.

'He is a right-back, who can play centre-half. He certainly won't be in the team ahead of John Brayford that is for sure, but he is one for the future.'
