Gudjon Speaks Loans... Again

Gudjon Speaks Loans... Again

Loans are the flavour of the month and Gudjon says that he has two targets he wants to bring in on loan.

Gudjon has said all summer that he will take advantage of the loan system and he's sticking to his guns so far. Patrick Ada and Mat Mitchel-King remain our only two [free] permanent signings so far this summer whilst Button from Spurs arrived on loan last week.

Gudjon today revealed that he has enquired about two further loan deals for a midfielder and defender, both of whom are English based. Speaking to the official website, Thord says that it's the time of year where players make their minds up.

'The loan market is an attractive one and I would like to bring in two move on loan if possible in August. I have spoken about two possible players to their managers and they are English based and would play in defence and midfield.

'Players are beginning to realise their situation a bit more clearly now. They are beginning to realise that they may not fit into the managers' plans and will need to go out on loan if they want to play games.'

But there's debate over whether loans are more of a temporary fix rather than a chance to build season-on-season. 2007-2008 saw two teams, Hereford and Stoke, both promoted with a vast amount of loanees in their squads.

In Stoke's case, with the mountains of cash from the Premier League earnt, they were still able to build their squad for the higher division. Hereford however struggled, relegated with us back to League Two.

I'm personally not sure loans are the answer. The success of them is small and what do we do next year when they all return to their parent club? We either struggle to build a League One side or we're left with half a League Two squad with loans once again the only option.
