McCready On Trial At Gills
Former Alex defender Chris McCready is training with League One Gillingham in the hope of winning a contract. McCready was one of several players released by Gudjon this summer after yet another injury prone couple of years.
Despite making his debut for the Alex in 2001, the 27 year old has long struggled with injuries and has made less than 100 starts in his 8 years as a professional with Crewe.
In 2006 McCready left the club for Tranmere Rovers, somehow the Birkenhead club managed to get 44 starts out on him in just one season - a record that saw then manager Steve Holland tempt him back to the club in 2007.
Typically, the moment he returned to Reaseheath so did his injury problems. McCready made just six appearances last season, partly due to injuries and partly due to those six appearances lacking quality.
McCready is likely to get a chance to impress at Gillingham as soon as tomorrow, when they get their pre-season under way with a friendly at Folkestone Invicta.
