O'Connor Completes Iron Switch

Michael O'Connor has today completed his move to Scunthorpe United for a fee that could rise to £225,000.

The Northern Irish midfielder leaves the club after five years, coming through the academy to play over 70 games and captain the team on occasions. Upon arriving in the first team he was tipped as the next big thing and he soon proved his potential as he began receiving regular call ups to the Northern Ireland senior squad.

After proving himself as the rock in the Alex midfielder cracks soon began to show as his attitude started to show through. It all escalated on Gudjon's appointment where where practical jokes and missed training sessions soon turned him into public enemy number one at Gresty Road.

In March Occy was sent out on loan to Lincoln, a move that gave both Gudjon and O'Connor a chance to let their feud calm, or so it should have done. Instead, O'Connor told the Lincolnshire press that he would not play for Gudjon again, claiming to have been singled out by the new boss.

After finishing his loan spell at Lincoln he headed to Hibs for a trial spell before once again telling the press he wanted out of Gresty Road as soon as possible. In the mean time Gudjon continued to offer O'Connor a chance to put it in the past and become a part of his squad for the new campaign.

Whilst O'Connor's attitude was not making him well liked at the Alex, his ability on the pitch had always attracted interest and with him wanting out it was only a matter of time before someone stumped up the money.

Earlier in the summer Scunthorpe confirmed interest and last Thursday a deal was struck, as revealed by Vital Crewe. After talks over the weekend with O'Connor completed the move that nets us at least £225k and a substantial sell-on clause.
