Elding Handed Vice Captain Role

Elding Handed Vice Captain Role

Last season's outcast looks set to play a major part in the new campaign as Gudjon names Anthony Elding as his new vice captain.

Having already named Billy Jones as the new club captain, the surprise comes in Elding's role as 'second in line'.

The former Stockport man had a difficult season last season following his 'big' money move from Leeds last summer. He was eventually loaned out to Lincoln City for the latter part of the season.

It was thought that Elding could well have been on his way through the exit door this pre-season, but a summer of thinking from Gudjon looks as though it's saved Elding's Alex career.

Speaking to crewealex.net following today's friendly at Newcastle, Gudjon explained his decision to put faith in Elding for the forthcoming season:

'I have selected Billy as captain as the new captain and Anthony will be second. I thought he did well in his new position.

'I have been thinking about having a new role for him since the end of the season.

I didn't get much of a chance to see him because he wanted to go out on loan to Lincoln at the end of last season but he came back and did well for me at the end of the season.'
