Ex-Alex On The Move

Former not so fan favourite Ben Williams is primed to exit Carlisle after just 12 months. The former Man Utd trainee keeper is on the verge of signing for Colchester United for an undisclosed fee, with talks beginning today.

Williams left Gresty Road last summer on a free transfer, despite having an offer of a new three year on the table from Steve Holland. In his four years at the club he made over 130 appearances but, despite one hell of a loan spell prior to his transfer, he never really had fans backing since.

He wasn't a perfect keeper but then at this level you'd be hard pushed to find one. A couple of spillages and inability to perform miracles behind the worst defence in the English game meant some fans just couldn't take to him - though they ran a mile/cried (delete as appropriate) the moment Williams offered to take them up on their criticisms.

Meanwhile, as some fans continue their search for a Petr Cech ready to play League Two football, Williams's replacement Steve Collis has revealed he may be looking for a loan move. Collis was out of favour for much of last season despite being given the number one shirt last summer, Collis's agent revealed that he wants first team football next season - whether it's at Crewe or elsewhere.
