Foyle Enters Assistant Frame

Former Port Vale manager Martin Foyle is reported to be interested in the vacant assistant manager job going at Gresty Road.

A legend as a player at Vale Park, Foyle went on to be manager of the Valiants for three years before his disastrous start to the 2007-2008 season got him the boot.

Since leaving Vale 18 months ago he has gone on to coach at Wrexham before taking the managerial reigns at York City last November. Despite helping them to the FA Trophy Final, which they lost, at Wembley earlier this month Foyle's time with the Minstermen hasn't been much fun - winning just 11 in 35 games.

Strangely, as he builds his York squad for next season's Blue Square Premier season, The Sentinel believe he is willing to pack in his manager's job in the league below to become Gudjon's assistant at the Alex.

It's a job that has received a fair bit of interest since Neil Baker was given a little shove last week. Nantwich Town manager Steve Davis seems favourite for the job amongst fans but Notts County assistant Dave Kevan and former Notts County assistant Ross MacLaren have also been linked.

Gudjon has already ruled McClaren out and Notts County said they hadn't had any contact from Crewe and Kegan wouldn't be going if we did make contact for him. Davies is favourite for the job.
