Gudjon Thordarson has axed assistant manager Neil Baker as he looks to bring in his own man at Gresty Road.
Baker, who made a name for himself in the non league joined Crewe in 1994 and held talks with Thordarson yesterday.
It remains unclear however if Baker will take up a different role at Gresty road. He could be set to take up a scouting role after spotting players such as steve Jones, Tom Pope, Luke Varney and John Brayford during his time at Crewe.
Nantwich manager Steve Davies has been heavily linked with the number two job, as has Phil Parkinson, who played under Gudjon at Stoke. Thordarson's number two at Notts County, Ross McClaren was ruled out of the running earier this week.
Speaking to the sentinal, Thordarson said 'I want to bring in my own assistant manager and that is what I am aiming to do now. They have got to have the desire to go and make things happen.'
'I've spoken to six or seven people about it. I need a competitive, honest and hard-working person and the people I've spoken to know what is required.'
