Brayford Ready To Battle For Crewe

John Brayford says he wishes to help the Alex back up in to League One amid rumours he's on his way out.

The former Burton man is a known target for his former manager Nigel Clough, now manager of Derby County. Clough is already thought to have had a £200,000 bid for Brayford turned down with two other Championship clubs sniffing.

It would be quite a leap for Brayford, having signed for just £130,000 on 1st September last year Brayford went on to have a superb first season at Gresty Road, picking up all player of the season awards en route.

Now with the transfer window scramble fast approach it seems like Brayford is heading for the exit door sooner rather than later, but unlike previous names to have held the right back slot and jumped ship at the first sign of money Brayford says he more than happy to remain at the Railwaymen.

Speaking to The Sentinel Brayford said:

'The situation is that I'm still a Crewe player. It's nice to be linked with other clubs, but I'm more than happy to stay.

'I sat down with Gudjon recently and he said there was a possibility I could move on, but that he wanted me to stay.

'If I did move, I'd hope the transfer fee would help Crewe bring in a few fresh faces, which Gudjon wants to do.

'Crewe are the club that took me from non-league football and I want to repay them by helping to take them back up.'

But ultimately it'll be down to Gudjon if Brayford remains. A decent offer, with his valuation thought to be somewhere around the £600,000 mark, would see Brayford go, it's just a matter of if anyone is willing to stump up that amount.
