Gudjon Plans For The Summer

Gudjon Thordarson is getting ready to prepare his side for an assault on League Two in August.

The Iceman will be calling the players in this week to check on their fitness and discuss any outstanding contract issues, most notably that of Danny Woodards.

Woodards has refused to sign a new contract since last summer, using the good old 'weigh up my options' excuse. Whilst most fans are pretty much expecting Woody to depart Gudjon is hoping to convince the Chelsea trainee to remain at Gresty Road.

Speaking to CreweAlex.net, Gudjon said that Woodards is one of just a couple whose future is uncertain:

'Danny and ourselves decided to put any talks on hold until the season ended and we knew where we were going to be.

'The players will be in for fitness tests this week, so hopefully I will get a chance to speak to a few of them before they go off for the summer.

'There will be a few players going but the majority of the squad have one or two years left, so therefore the majority of the squad will be the same. There cannot be that many changes but we need some players for the big part of the squad.

'We will have to see what is available and what quality we can bring in for the money we have. I only want good quality.'

Meanwhile the players will be introduced to Gudjon's summer regime. Known to be keen on fitness, Gudjon is ready to make the players work throughout the summer.

They will all be given a fitness programme to follow in the closed season before they return to pre-season. It will be intense because we need to be ready.'
