If we're denied the three points then at least we can claim the moral victory this afternoon.
With Billy Jones booked for being fouled, and promptly sent off for disagreeing with the lineswoman, mid way through the first half it was always going to be an uphill task.
After a horrible 10 minutes that saw a demoralised Alex defence collapse and Leeds score three we went on to out play and out fight a rather average Leeds United side.
Pride and passion was the winner today, and whilst Leeds can kid themselves it was anything but, goals from Julien Baudet & Tom Pope in the second half put us on the verge of a well deserved draw. Unfortunately it was just too much of an ask with players tiring rapidly in the final minutes.
After the game Gudjon Thordarson gave his honest and perfect assessment of the day, he too pondered some of the shocking decisions given by the officials.
Speaking to crewealex.net, Gudjon said:
I didn't want the decisions of other people to ruin our afternoon and for them to show what we are made of. They did that and I am very proud of them. They gave everything against a good side and I have told them that they are the winners from this afternoon. We may have lost the game, but Crewe Alexandra are the winners.
'I viewed the sending off again at half-time and it was clear to me what had happened. The Leeds player has pulled Billy back and it is a foul against him and then he has been sent off for abusive language.
'It is not acceptable in a competitive game when professionals are competing against each other but we shouldn't react. We have to remain calm in those situations. They are committed out there and I will look at the incident and see what we can do.
'The decisions made by the officials is what will be talked about and it should be about the football but there is not a soul in this stadium who couldn't be proud of the players of Crewe this afternoon.'
It's not too down heartening today. When a group of officials can't do their job properly then there's nothing you can do, at least the performance showed we are too good to go down.
