We broke the 40 point barrier with a fantastic 0-1 win at Colchester today and just three more wins could mean safety!
Calvin Zola was the man of the hour with his 63rd minute goal, firing home from close range after a Donaldson throw-in special, but it sounded a largely dull game.
A win that ended Colchester's five match unbeaten run moved us up to 18th and a whole six points away from the relegation zone. With 41 points in the bag it's looking like 50 points could do it, with 52 points certainly securing League One football.
To be writing this just three months after confirming the gap between us and safety had stretched to 11 points goes to show the amazing job Gudjon Thordarson has achieved in his ten weeks in charge at Gresty Road.
It makes you wonder what may have been done if the Iceman had arrived earlier!
So we look to Tuesday where a win would take us up to the dizzy heights of 15th. With this home game against Bristol Rovers being our game in hand over most of the other relegation pack it would almost certainly make us favourites to avoid the drop in that bottom 9.
Let's not assume it'll be a walk over though. Rovers are on the back of a 5-0 win today at Walsall and currently having the best away record for the last five games. Mind you, we have the second best home record in the last five games... and sit top of the form table.
Ah that can wait. Let's enjoy the next 48 hours!
