Steve Holland Takes Stoke Job

Steve Holland Takes Stoke Job

Former Alex boss Steve Holland has been appointed Stoke City's academy director.

Holland was sacked as Crewe Alex boss back in November and has been out of football since.

Having won just nine points in the first 16 games of the season Holland came under massive pressure from Alex fans to leave his post as Alex manager. Following a home defeat to Leyton Orient Holland was given the boot, later replaced by Gudjon Thordarson.

There's little argument that management wasn't for the 38 year old but his record as a youth coach remains supreme to many in football. Having over seen the progression of the likes of Danny Murphy, Seth Johnson, Dean Ashton and Rob Hulse, he certainly gave us a handful of the best players we'll see at Gresty Road.

Having joined the coaching staff in 1993 Holland spent over 15 years at the club and still remains close to Dario and the club, but despite a offer of a 'new' job from the club following his sacking in November Holland decided to move on.

After spending three away from the game Holland has returned to take on the job of Stoke City's academy in the Premiership after rejecting a similar offer from big-boys Chelsea. With £5million due to be invested into the Potters youth system they seem to be, finally, taking that part of the club seriously.
