'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Seven At The Weaver

A relatively experienced reserve side thrashed Nantwich 7-2 in a friendly at the Weaver Stadium tonight.

The for-the-fun-of-it friendly allowed Gudjon Thordarson to see his main crop of fringe players in action whilst Nantwich picked up some healthy gate receipts at £5 a pop.

The game saw Zola and Miller grab two a piece with Schumacher, Bopp and Carrington also on the scoresheet.

Rodney Jack also made an appearance for Nantwich.

At the game was pastymaster with this to say on the Vital Crewe Message Board:

There's not a lot to say really, we were OK, nothing more.

The starting team was:

Tomlinson
Abbey
O'Donnell
McCready
Westwood
Shelly
Carrington
Schumacher
Grant
Zola
Miller

I can't really remember who scored, I think Miller got two, Carringon, Zola, Schumacher and Bopp scored, I can't think who got the other though!

Its hard to say if any of them are worthy of a first team spot, Zola was bad and Miller started awfully but scored twice. Grant did naff all and Shelly's still a bit too young in my opinion.

Carrington did OK and was maybe the best player.

Lunt, Bopp and Daniels came on as subs in the second half along with a few youth players.

Rodney Jack played for around 60 minutes for them which was good, he was easily their best player!

It does make me think though, what really was the point of it all? The Alex players that played ain't really going to get a look in at the first 11 (other than Zola, Miller and Daniels) and the defeat really isn't going to improve the moral at Nantwich. A bizarre one really!
