Thordarson Speaks About Arrivals

Gudjon Thordarson says trialist Gunnar Mar Gudmundsson will arrive on Wednesday in a bid to earn a deal.

The Icelandic midfielder will have a trial next week in the hope of securing a loan deal with the club. The 25 year old is an attacking midfielder (not a goalkeeper as widely reported), standing at 6ft 3in and holds an impressive goal record.

In current club's last season Gudmundsson scored 11 goals in 23 games for Fjolnir in the Icelandic Premier League and has since been noticed by the Iceland national team.

Regardless of his stats, Thordarson says that any player he signs has to improve the team, telling crewealex.net: 'Gunnar is a midfielder, who can also play as a striker. He is a big, powerful lad and very fit and athletic. He is a hard working player and is very committed

'He would come here on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal.

'We are always looking to strengthen the squad but I won't do it for the sake of it. There are players out there who we could sign. That's easy, but we want the right players, who will come here and improve us and that is not as easy.'

Meanwhile Thordarson has confirmed the club's appointment of goalkeeping coach Steve Marsella. Marsella has previously worked with Thordarson at Barnsley and Notts County and will take 3 sessions a week with the goalkeepers as well as oversee them on match days.

Thordarson hopes it will put an end to the silly mistakes by Tomlinson and Collis that have been too regular in recent weeks, and still hasn't ruled out offering Marsella a more full time role at the club.

'Marsella will work here on a part-time basis for the time being to see how that works out. He will work with the goalkeepers three times a week and on a matchday.'
