Cotterill To Be Offered The Job?

Media reports suggest that former Stoke City manager Steve Cotterill is to be named Crewe Alexandra manager.

Sky Sports amongst others are reporting that board of directors have agreed that Cotterill is the right man for the job following Steve Holland's sacking one month ago.

Cotterill made his name as Cheltenham Town manager, bringing them into the Football League in 1999. He followed it up with his third Robins promotion into League One in 2002 before leaving to take over at Championship side Stoke City.

However, after just 13 games Cotterill quit the Potters in order to take the assistant manager's role at Howard Wilkinson's Sunderland. Unfortunately it didn't turn out a wise move with Cotterill and Wilkinson getting the sack after just 20 games and only two wins.

In 2004 he was named the new manager of Burnley. He helped the Lancashire club steady the ship in the Championship but a failure to progress ultimately saw him leave the club just over a year ago.

Since leaving Burnley Cotterill has mostly been media jobs as a pundit for Sky Sports.

The news seems to contradict other reports this week that the board are only just starting the interviewing process, but having been without a manager for a month now the appointment has to be sooner rather than later.
