'If It's Football, It's Vital'

That Winning Feeling…

Shaun Miller was the hero for a resurgent Alex team yesterday as he scored the only goal, firing home in first half stoppage time after the Swindon keeper palmed Joel Grant`s shot into his path.

Crewe`s couldn`t find the killer second goal though in a game that lacked any sort of cutting edge, but their worries were eased when ex-Port Vale striker Billy Paynter was sent off for the second consecutive season at Gresty Road after a head butt on Michael O`Connor midway through the second half.

Swindon were one of the poorest teams I have seen at Crewe this season, and like in a typical Alex fashion of recent times they came with seemingly no intent or urgency to win the game and we actually took the game to them some what.

The Alex created very few chances though, despite the poorness of the opposition and therefore the performance isn`t too much cause to think we can suddenly put a run together. It`s a start though, a win that had to happen to keep vague survival hopes alive, and a vital clean sheet to give our ailing defence a much needed confidence boost.

With high flying Millwall the next game away from home, the Alex now have to try and consolidate and build on yesterday`s win and start to show some of the battling qualities that are going to have to necessary if surviving relegation is to become any sort of reality.
