Ward Emerges As Candidate For Managers Role

Former Cheltenham Town and Carlisle United manager John Ward looks to be in the frame for the job at Gresty Road.

The 57 year old is certainly an experienced and proven manager that the club are looking for having guided Cheltenham Town to a promotion and helped Carlisle United to the League One play-offs last season.

Ward began his managerial career at York City where he remained for nearly two years. He went on to manager Bristol Rovers and Bristol City during the mid-90's before becoming Colin Lee's assistant at Wolves.

Ward left Wolves in 2003 to become manager of League Two Cheltenham, he won promotion with the Robins to League One in 2006 and helped them consolidate in League One.

In October last year he was head hunted by Carlisle United and appointed manager on October 2nd. Ward enjoyed a successful season remaining in the top 3 for most of the season but failed to gain promotion at the last hurdle after losing to Leeds United in the play-off semi-final.

After a poor start to this season that saw Carlisle go on a 10 game winless streak Ward and the club parted company.

Ward is now looking for a return to management, also applying for the vacant job at Swindon Town, and it is now thought he has also made his interest in the job at Crewe known.
