Reserves Thrash Macc Town
Crewe Reserves strolled to an 8-1 victory this afternoon in a behind closed doors friendly with Macclesfield's reserves.
Two goals a piece from Tom Pope and Colin Daniel were added to by youngsters Matthew Lund, Luke Murphy and Chris Clement. Former Crewe defender Richard Walker scored an own goal for Macc, bringing the total goals scored to eight.
Colin Daniel continued his rich vein of goalscoring form for the reserves with another brace, making it four goals in a week for him following his return from a loan spell at Halifax.
Tom Pope scored two as he continues to knock on the first team door and must now surely be considered for a starting berth on Saturday.
With Saturday's game on the horizon, against a struggling Leyton Orient team, Holland surely has to abandon his bizarre and confusing first half tactics from the Ebbsfleet game and go with a straight 4-4-2 formation.
Tom Pope will be hoping his goals today, along with his performances when he has played this season, will be enough to see him return to the starting line up on Saturday.
Pope, who today admitted he is keen to sign a new contract, must be getting continually annoyed at been snubbed by Steve Holland for a starting role.
He told crewealex.net today: 'I am in discussions with Steve and we will talk again this week because there are one or two things we need to sort out. I am delighted to have been offered a new deal here, because it is a great club and I am learning all the time.
'I want to stay here because the coaching staff have given me a chance and taken me this far, so there is no reason why I think they can't keep on improving me as a player.'
