Lawrence Signs Up

Crewe have completed the loan signing of Dennis Lawrence from Swansea City. The giant defender has been a target for the Alex since the summer and Steve Holland has finally captured his man.

The 34 year old has signed a deal to the end of December having seen himself fall in the ranks at Swansea.

Having been signed by the Welsh club from Wrexham, Lawrence made over 80 appearances for Swansea in his first two seasons, including his big role in helping secure Swansea's promotion to the Championship last season.

He arrived in Britain in 2001, signing for Wrexcham from Trinidad club Defence Force - the club where we brought in Clayton Ince from. In his five years at Wrexham he made over 200 appearances, becoming player of the season in 03/04.

In 2006 he played all of Trinidad & Tobago's three games at the World Cup, including the 2-0 defeat against England.

Steve Holland told crewealex.net of his delight at the signing of Lawrence: 'We are really pleased to have Dennis here, he is a very experienced player and played a big part for Swansea when they got promoted last year - captaining the side on occasions. He gives us a real presence in both boxes and as I said has a lot of experience behind him too.

Dennis Lawrence meanwhile says he's not treating this as a holiday:

I have a lot of ambition and hunger to do well so I will go out there in every game and give it 110%. I'm not here to have a holiday; I am here to do well for myself and for the team.'

It's likely Lawrence will now go straight into the team to face Northampton at Gresty Road on Saturday.

Vital Crewe would like to welcome Lawrence to the Alex, although we don't envy his task of sorting out the shambles at the back!
