'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Alex Snippets 16/09/2008

STUART TOMLINSON will get a run out for the reserve team tomorrow afternoon and recovering well from injury. The keeper suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury whilst on loan to Burton Albion last season and was expected to be ruled out up to November.

The 23 year old will line up against Wigan Athletic's second string tomorrow and assistant manager Neil Baker is delighted to see him back, as he told crewealex.net: 'Stuart is a great lad. He has never let us down when we have needed him and he never will. It is good to have him back and now we will have three good goalkeepers battling for the number one spot and that can only be good news for the club.'

JULIEN BAUDET suffered a groin strain in training yesterday. The French defender however is expected to recover in time for Saturday's home game against Southend.

Southend meanwhile have had goalkeeper, and former Alex target, Steve Mildenhall ruled out for a month. It was feared that Mildenhall had broken his ankle during Southend's clash against Hereford but the ankle was later revealed to be severely sprained.

COLCHESTER'S Steven Gillespie claims he shouldn't have been sent off during Saturday's match at Gresty Road. The striker saw red after a dangerous two footed tackle on Danny Woodards towards the end of the match.

Gillespie however says a yellow card would have been fair: 'It was a foul - but I thought it was only a yellow card.

'I went in hard but I think if you don`t do that, you get hurt yourself.'
