Addo Told No

Ransford Addo has returned to Royal Antwerp after failing to impress enough during a trial at Crewe.

The 25 year old, whose brother is PSV defender Eric Addo, was recommended to the club by officials at Manchester United but after a week's trial at Reaseheath Training Ground, the Ghanaian has been told that the Alex won't be pursuing their interest.

It was expected that Addo would sign on a loan deal but it looks as if a last minute re-think from Steve Holland ruled that our. Holland told crewealex.net that Addo was close but not close enough, as the first team coach seeks an instant impact: 'He was close but not quite close enough to what we really need at the back. We weren't sure he would improve the starting eleven and that was it. No other reason.

'He was a good player, very intelligent, quick and a nice man as well.

'With the window about to close you can become pressurised into doing something because you think that something has to be done. I have one hit at this one. There is no more for another one if the one we get isn't want we are looking for. We don't want more numbers for sake of it.'

So the search for a new defender continues, Whether letting Addo go without further interest is a signal that there's another player in the pipeline, I'm not sure, but Holland is clearly not willing to risk taking on another Pavol Suhaj.
