Crewe Offer Breen A Chance

Crewe have offered former Wolves and Coventry defender Gary Breen a chance to join the club. However, Steve Holland says concluding a deal looks unlikely.

The 35 year old has played over 500 games over spells at 9 different clubs but has started the new season as a free agent following his release from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer.

The Rep. Of Ireland international made 20 appearances for Wolves last season and Steve Holland thinks he fits the bill as the experienced head in the side, replacing Neil Cox who retired in the summer.

Holland has left the proposal with Breen but the first team coach has admitted that it doesn't look likely to happen as he explained to crewealex.net: 'I made a tentative enquiry about Gary Breen. I spoke to Mick McCarthy at Wolves about him and he had nothing but praise for him, as a professional and a leader.

'We could do with a bit more experience in there and Breen certainly has that in abundance. I spoke to his agent and said if there was any interest from Gary to get back to me. That hasn't happened, so I don't think anything will happen there.'

Breen has recently been training with Walsall to maintain his fitness, with Walsall also said to be interested in offering him a contract.
