Johnson Released After Trial

Striker Eddie Johnson has not been offered a deal by the club, a move which may make some fans smile.

The 23 year old has rejected Crewe twice in the past but was handed a third chance when he turned up on Dario Gradi`s doorstep to plead for another chance in a Crewe shirt, rejecting a move to Chester in the process.

Most fans looked on in disgust as he was offered a trial after the games he has played in the past with the club. But to be fair to him he impressed in his first pre-season game scoring a brace against Quorn.

Holland told the official site 'I've spoken to Eddie this morning and we have decided to let him go. It wasn't an easy decision because Eddie has come here and done well for us. He couldn't have worked any harder than he has done."

'His attitude and application has been excellent and I have a lot of respect for Eddie. It wasn't easy for him to do what he did in the first place and he has certainly gone up in my estimation. People commented on what has gone on in the past but as far I was concerned that was all in the past."

'We gave him an opportunity and have simply compared him with the other strikers we have here and the one we are trying to bring in. He wouldn't be at the top of the pecking order, so we have decided to move him on. It wasn't an easy conversation to have and we have a lot of time for Eddie. He came here and gave it a really good shot.'
