Bristol City Confirm Maynard Bid

Bristol City have confirmed that they made a bid for Nicky Maynard but were priced out of the transfer.

City chairman Steve Lansdown confirmed the news at the club's open day this week.

It has long been reported that Bristol City, along with Ipswich & Middlesbrough, were the keenest on Maynard but have all failed to match Crewe's £2.5million evaluation of Nicky. Various bids of £1.7million and above are thought to have been rejected in recent weeks, but Bristol City say they won't be meeting the asking price.

The official Bristol City website confirmed that Maynard is no longer a target saying: '... figures quoted were too high and any interest is now over'.

The Robins are set to miss out on Egytian striker Emad Moteab, but a transfer for Coventry's Michael Misfsud is to be tied up in the coming days.

Yesterday Maynard netted from the penalty spot as the Alex thrashed Premier League new boys Hull City 4-0 at Gresty Road.
