Anthony Elding says he's delighted to have signed for Crewe this afternoon. The former Stockport striker put pen to paper on a 3 year contract at the third time of asking earlier.
Having been rejected by the forward in January and again earlier this summer, it was hard to imagine Elding lining up for the Alex on the first day of 08/09 season.
However, Elding says it's one place he always wanted to play... clearly forgetting his quotes on the Stockport Official Website in January saying he'd have stayed at County if Crewe and Hartlepool were his only options.
Elding told CreweAlex.net: 'I have heard stories about Crewe being interested before today, and it is a place I have always wanted to come. For some reason or another it didn't happen before - but I'm over the moon that it has happened today.
'I am finally here, and now I am looking to get some goals and do well. It is a great club and a great chance for me to show everyone that I am capable of playing in League One.
'I'm not frightened of competition at all, I know all about Nicky, and Calvin. I've played against them both and they are both quality strikers and me being added to the side can only be a positive. It is a great opportunity for us all, and maybe play three up front who knows, it's an exciting time.'
Exciting indeed.
Meanwhile Steve Holland was more than happy that his 8 month pursuit of Elding has finally paid off. Holland told the official site:
'It has been our aim to have our own players in place and to be relying on them. I think we have been able to do that with the addition of Calvin Zola and now Anthony. We are delighted to have him on board.'
