One Club Close To Nicky Valuation

Steve Holland says one club has come close to meeting Crewe's valuation of striker Nicky Maynard. Ipswich Town and Bristol City are both thought to be in talks over a deal for the striker but are still yet to match the £2.5million price tag the Alex have stuck on Nicky.

Holland has now admitted that the club have received bids for Maynard and that Maynard is being informed about each one, as the club stick to their usual approach over transfers.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Holland said: 'We have kept him in touch with everything that has happened and he knows every offer that has been made and every club interested.

'From my own point of view he needs another season in League One. But while we don't want him to go, we do have a responsibility to let him know what options he has.

'We have had one club that has got close to our valuation.'

Meanwhile, talk that the club have renewed their interest in Leeds striker Anthony Elding continues to strengthen. The former Stockport hit man is thought to be still in touch with the club as all parties look to reach a satisfactory conclusion to the transfer.

I'm an Ipswich fan and really hope he comes, i think we should stump up the 2.5 million asking price! that way everyone is happy!!

The valuation has gone up from £2M to £2.5M ? My feeling is that he will go for £3M in the end. To whom is anybody's guess. It's a pain though isn't it. We have just spent the best part of two months securing the services of an Egyptian striker. Even that is subject to a work permit although I think a qualification for that is having played in 75% of international matches which he has done. The rumour is that we will attempt to partner him with Nicky Maynard and will pay what we have to. It seems a bit of overkill to me and as you say it may be rumour mongers trying to out-mong each other. We have Dele Adebola, Lee Trundle, David Noble, and a fit again Steve Brooker, I doubt we need another striker although Nicky is probably better than all of them and certainly younger, fresher, hungrier etc. We'll see. I edit Vital Bristol City and am refusing to publish all the rumours because they would drive me mad. However, Nicky Maynard seems to be the next on most peoples radars after the signing of Emad Meteb.
