Crewe Complete Zola Signing

Crewe Complete Zola Signing

Calvin Zola becomes the third summer signing for Crewe Alexandra after being successfully grated a work permit at a hearing on Friday and signing his contract today.

The Congolese striker has finally completed his move to Gresty Road having agreed a 3 year deal.

The 23 year old started his career at Newcastle United and got his first taste of first team football in a loan to League 1 rivals Oldham Athletic.

While at Oldham, Zola made 25 appearances and scored 5 goals. Newcastle released the striker on his return and then went on to join Tranmere Rovers where he has made over 100 appearances for the club scoring 17 goals.

Zola is seen by the Alex management as the perfect partner for Nicky Maynard next year and fits the bill of the 'proper' target man they have been after since the sale of Dean Ashton.

The fee to bring Zola to Crewe from Tranmere has been confirmed by the club as £200,000.

i think this is a brilliant signing for us because we now have a tall targat man upfront instead of the normal two smaller players up there.
