Williams Signs For Carlisle

Former Alex keeper Ben Williams has signed for Carlisle United today. The 25 year old left the Alex this summer after his contract expired and he rejected the offer of a new three year deal at Crewe.

Williams came under heavy fire throughout last season with many fans willing to pin the blame for he poor season on the former Man Utd trainee.

In his three years at Crewe he saw the club's relegation to League One and conceded an average of 75 per season, though never had a decent defence to offer any sort of help.

Today he signed a three year contract at Carlisle, who missed out on promotion to the Championship in the play-offs last season, and is set to fight for the number one spot.

Carlisle manager John Ward was delighted to have captured Ben, telling the Carlisle Official Website: 'We wanted to bring someone in who would provide the right level of competition for a starting place in our first team, and we think we've got that with Ben. He has played regularly for Crewe, and we know all about him, so we're all now looking forward to working with him. He's here to fight for his place, and to show us what he can do, and we're very pleased that he has joined the club'
