Collis Has Alex Talks

Former Southend goalkeeper Steve Collis has had talks with Crewe over a move to Gresty Road. The 27 year old is set to become the new Alex number one if he agrees to the move.

Collis is currently a free agent having been released by Southend in May. He made 20 appearances for the Shrimpers last season and impressed fans, who thought he was due a contract extension. He's previously had spells at Barnet, Forest and Yeovil.

Collis met with Dario Gradi for talks yesterday and Dario says he's optimistic Collis will agree to the move, despite it meaning a relocation for his family.

Dario told crewealex.net: 'I met with Steve (Collis) and his agent, who is Rachel Anderson. She has been an agent for many years and is what I call a proper agent. They knew all about the finance before they came up and the big attraction for him is becoming our number one.

'He has gone away to think things over because his young family would have to move up to the area,.

'I am optimistic of a deal being done, but my experience tells me that you can never be totally sure. If he doesn't come then he have others to consider and we have a very good one, who we could bring in on a long-term loan up our sleeve.'
