Elding Deal Became Complicated

Dario Gradi says the Anthony Elding deal became complicated after a change of mind from the former Stockport striker.

Elding looked set for Gresty Road earlier last week when a 100,000 deal with Leeds was all but done. Elding and his agent, former Alex striker Lee Matthews, had promising talks early last week but just as Dario & the club were expecting to tie up the 2nd signing of the summer Elding had a change of mind.

The transfer was called off yesterday after Elding decided to stay at Leeds to fight for a place in their first team.

Technical Director Dario Gradi has since told crewealex.net of the saga: 'The Anthony Elding discussions became complicated.

'I was impressed with him and he was very complimentary about us when we met with him and his agent, who just happened to be Lee Matthews.

'After we had sorted a way of doing the deal, I rang him back and thought we would be delighted but he was less than enthusiastic. That was the last we heard from him and his party.'

Its no good spending that sort of money on a player if they don't sound fully committed before they even get with you.
