Last season taught us a lot. This team is pretty dreadful and lucky to still be in League One and that attracting players to the club is more difficult than it's been in a long time. At the AGM Steve Holland reeled off a whole host of names, that included the likes of Geoff Horsefield, that he had tried to sign to no avail in the January transfer market. Even Blue Square Premier striker Stuart Fleetwood rejected a move.
We're a month away from a pre-season trip to Bulgaria and still look no nearer to signing a soul. Greg Fleming chose to be 2nd choice at Oldham over first choice at Crewe and no-one seems to know the truth behind talk of Calvin Zola signing.
More keepers have had talks - so we're told indirectly - but no keeper has signed a contract to make himself a CAFC player. Winger Snodgrass has had talks, we hear, but Scottish papers went from having us as front runners to Dundee within 24 hours.
Today Elding and Morison were linked again, two players who were linked throughout January - with Elding turning us down before the window shut. Talk is that Morison has agreed terms, yet Stevenage's chairman claims no interest has been shown in the striker, whilst Elding could be using us like so many other players in the past have done - to show he is welcoming any offers!
Steve Holland and Neil Baker are using this to try and convince us, the fans, that they are working hard to secure players but four weeks and 15 links later... and still no signings. If Holland wants 6/7 new players as he claims, he's not doing particularly well.
I'm still waiting hopefully but with each passing day I feel we're getting nearer and nearer to the dreaded 'We'll go with what we've got' speech.
And I write this knowing I could well have egg on my face by Thursday afternoon. Oh I do hope so.
