Vital Crewe look at strikers who could possibly fit the bill at Crewe Alexandra. Following Steve Holland's comments that he has spoken to a striker who has signaled his interest in signing, it's opened up some interest from fans as to who the mystery man is.
A player who we assume is young, has played against the academy sides as a youngster, not a previous target and possibly a exciting signing. Could it be...
Current Team Rotherham United
This Leicester City academy graduate now plies his trade at crisis club Rotherham United. He signed for Rotherham in January 2007 after failing to make the grade at Leicester, despite 24 appearances. Rotherham splashed out £65,000 for him and he has repaid their faith in him with 11 goals last term. However, he was dropped from the Rotherham side when he refused to take a pay cut following Rotherham entering administration. At 6ft 3in, he's a perfect target man that Holland is looking for and with Rotherham's financial problems shouldn't cost too much.
Current Team Stoke City
No relation to Wayne, Adam Rooney came through the ranks at neighbours Stoke before bursting onto the scene with a hat-trick in only his second start, on the final day of the 05/06 season. He's failed to live up to the hype since and has had relatively successful loan spells at Chesterfield and Bury recently. With Stoke's promotion to the Premiership it doesn't look like his chance in their first team is round the corner. However, at 5ft 10in he's not the mould of striker the Alex are looking for... but does that rule him out?
Current Team Liverpool
Lindfield is known by Alex fans following his goal vs Crewe in pre-season a couple of years ago. The young 6ft striker has been linked with various moves to Gresty Road over the years but officially his name has never been mentioned. The Liverpool link more than anything brings this name out but at 19 and having had an ok spell on loan at Chester, Liverpool may feel it's time for Lindfield to move on.
