Former Loanee Listed
Ipswich Town winger Gary Roberts has been transfer listed by the Tractormen, three months after a short loan spell at Gresty Road. The 23 year old former Accrington man, who also spent a short time in the Crewe academy as a schoolboy, is now available to any interested clubs.
However, Ipswich boss says Roberts will still be welcomed in pre-season should no move materialise.
'We will listen to enquiries for the five players. If we don't get any interest that suits all parties then they will obviously be welcomed back for pre-season.'
Roberts was a long term target for the Alex but Steve Holland more than anyone was surprised when Ipswich agreed to let Roberts join the Alex on loan in January. Having been a semi-regular feature in the Ipswich side, Roberts was deemed a decent coup.
Roberts managed four games in his month loan and impressed fans with his obvious quality. However, his spell came to a sticky end when a half-time spat with Steve Holland during the away game at Northampton saw Roberts pulled off. Steve Holland, however, insists this had nothing to do with Roberts going back to Ipswich, citing a knee problem as the sole reason.
Whether the club will look to re-ignite the interest remains to be seen, but wages and the spat could mean it isn't to be.
Ipswich have also transfer listed Gavin Williams, Billy Clarke, Dan Harding and Matt Richards.
