'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Holland Starts The Ball Rolling

With the season now over for Crewe, Steve Holland is getting down to the business of improving his squad but says it won't be a quick turn around.

The first team coach was furious with his team when they, needing a point to survive, put in a dreadful performance at home to Oldham on the last day, rolling over to a 4-1 defeat.

Holland blasted some of his squad for not having the 'character and drive' when needed most.

Worrigly however, Holland admitted he wasn't sure if the team needed 'pulling apart'.

Speaking to SuperAlex.co.uk: 'I don't know whether the side needs pulling apart, but we looked a long way short against Oldham. We simply have to improve the team.

'We've done as much work as we can, but what league we finished in was vital.

'We'll pick up on that this week and start the ball rolling, but these things don't happen in days.'

'I think there is a lot to be done to get a team our supporters have been used to down the years.

'We are a long way from that at the moment, as the final table would suggest.'

Crewe have been linked with a host of players already, including Steve Morison of Stevenage, Martyn Woolford of York and Greg Fleming of Gretna. However, the one transfer most Alex fans will be waiting for is the possible exit of top scorer Nicky Maynard.
