Vital Crewe Player Of The Season - Julien Baudet

&datesort&paddingJulien Baudet has been named Vital Crewe Player Of The Season. The former Notts County man pips Nicky Maynard to the award.

The French defender led the vote on the website from the off when it opened three weeks ago.

His commitment to the cause has won him a lot of fans, but despite the Alex conceding 65 league goals this it's hard to say that Baudet has had a poor season. It maybe showed his importance to the team as he had to sit out the 4-1 defeat to Oldham on the last day of the season.

The 'Beast' has also taken on the captain's armband in the last year. With veteran Neil Cox drifting away from the first team picture, before retiring this summer, Baudet stepped up to take the role as captain.

Whilst there are many doubts over the defence at present, Baudet maybe isn't one of those doubts and we can hopefully see further improvement from this season's unlikely hero.

In second place was Nicky Maynard. Despite injury keeping him out for five months of the season it was without doubt his 12 goals in a seven game spell recently that helped the Railwaymen stay in League One. His all round play has impressed and his finishes are no longer just tap-ins. Expected to be in the Premiership next season, we can only dream of what might have been had Nicky not broken his leg 20 minutes into the season.

Right back Danny Woodards was joint 3rd with striker Tom Pope. Woodards had been ever present and solid for the first half of the season but seemed to drift in and out of form towards the end of season. Niggling injuries and being played out of position probably didn't help. Pope, meanwhile, has to take the award for most improved player.

The former Biddulph Vics man was virtually out of the picture before the season began but ended the season as a fan favourite. His effort wins him much of the praise but you can't complain about his seven goals this term.

FINAL Vital Crewe Player Of The Season AWARD STANDINGS:

1. Julien Baudet - 8.0 avg score
2. Nicky Maynard 7.9 avg score
3. Danny Woodards 7.8 avg score
4. Tom Pope 7.8 avg score
