Six Youngsters Offered Professional Contracts

Six academy youngsters have been offered professional terms at Crewe Alexandra this summer. Renowned for producing quality players, it's not surprising that five out of eight second year scholars have been offered professional terms whilst one first year scholar also gets a contract.

The six include Birmingham born defender Luke Danville who is described as 'a strong and pacey full back', whilst midfielder Luke Murphy was in the U-18 squad at just 15 years old. They are joined by midfielder Chris Clements who has been in fine form for the academy team, scoring 11 goals from the centre, and is currently on work experience at Nantwich Town. The final midfielder is Ashley Westwood, no relation to the former Alex defender of the same name we believe, who won the 'Player of the Tournament' award at the 2005 Milk Cup.

Crewe born forward A-Jay Leitch Smith will also be a professional next season and is descibed as 'a natural goal-scorer'. Finally Josh Thompson has only just finished his first year scholarship but is already knocking at the first team door. The pacey striker scored 17 goals for the youth side this season and was nearly called upon by Steve Holland earlier this year for the trip to Carlisle.
