Goal Of The Season - Vote

I have decided to look back at some of our best goals over the season. I didn`t think that there would be too many that stood out but I found it hard to narrow all of the goals down to 5.

Here are my 5 goals of the season:

Steven Schumacher - Away At Swindon Town - 1st September 2007
The chance arrived after and inch perfect ball from Gary Roberts from just over the half way line, a truly magnificent pass that was met equally well by Steven Schumacher, who hit a sweet volley into the net from just inside the area. The keeper had no chance.

Ryan Lowe (2nd Goal) - At Home Against Luton Town - 20th October 2007
A great through ball from loan striker Simon Church put Lowe in sight of goal. His first touch with his right foot stopped the ball dead and left the Luton defender in front of him wrong footed, he then hit the ball crisply with his left foot into the right side of the net. It`s similar to one of my favourite goals of all time scored in the lower leagues by Gavin Smith at Styal.

Ryan Lowe - At Home Against Northampton Town - 11th November 2007
Another great volley, and goal from Ryan Lowe making it into the top 5. This time Lowe struck a powerful volley after a poor headed clearance from a Northampton defender. The volley was lashed into the bottom right corner of the goal giving the keeper no chance.

Tom Pope - Away At Swansea City - 22nd January 2008
This was a goal I picked more for Pope`s effort and determination rather than the finish. Pope played the biggest part in the build up of the goal by keeping hold of possession just outside the Swansea area, he then spread the ball out wide to the left wing where Rix could hit a chip/cross into the box, which eventually fell to Pope who tapped the ball in to be rewarded for his hard work.

Nicky Maynard - Away At Walsall - 24th March 2008
This was a great goal by Maynard after some hard work and a good pass from Pope. Maynard received the ball with his back to goal, turned the Walsall defender with one touch and then belted the ball passed Clayton Ince into the bottom right corner of the goal. It was an amazing goal.

My favourite goal of the five has to be the Schumacher volley. First of all the pass from Gary Roberts was amazing, and secondly the finish from Schumacher was truly great and in my eyes had already won the goal of the season that early on.
