Villa Youngster On Trial

Young Aston Villa centre back Steven Clancy is having a trial with the club in the hope of securing a permanent deal. The 18 year old was part of the Villa youth side that reached the FA Youth Cup Semi-Final this season, beating the Alex on the way.

However, Clancy has been told by Villa that he will be released once his current contract expires in the summer, leaving him free to find a new club.

After impressing against the Alex in the Youth Cup the Railwaymen have offered Clancy a chance to earn himself a professional contract. Assistant manager Neil Baker believes there's some potential in him.

Baker told The Sentinel newspaper: ''We first noticed Steve in our Youth Cup game against Villa and we think he's a player with some potential. He'll be available in the summer so we'll have a good look at him while he's here.''

Clancy has certainly shown some potential on the international front, having played for the England youth teams up to the under-18s.
