O'Connor Makes Norn Iron Debut

Michael O'Connor made a 45 minute appearance for Northern Ireland tonight as they beat Georgia 4-1. The 20 year old midfielder won his first cap in the centre after coming on at half time for Damien Johnson.

With Northern Ireland taking a 3-0 lead into the second half the game slowed down considerably but it was O'Connor who gave Georgia a chance to pull one back on the 55th minute. His block inside the area was judged to have come off his arm and despite protests from the Alex midfielder that it had hit his shoulder the penalty was given and eventually converted.

Otherwise it was a quiet night for O'Connor, who sat in a holding role for Nigel Worthington's side. The cap will however be a huge boost for Occy, who has been impressive for the Railwaymen in recent weeks.

Having already played two and a half games this week, as well as traveling to and from Belfast, it remains to be seen if O'Connor will keep his place in the side for Saturday's trip to Luton.
