'If It's Football, It's Vital'

That was for the supporters

Today's fantastic 3-0 win at relegation rivals Gillingham was dedicated to the fans by first team coach Steve Holland.

Pope, Maynard and loanee Dean Morgan all got a goal each in a match that Crewe dominated. It's a vital three points that lifts the Alex four points away from the bottom four and lets fans sleep a little easier at night.

Steve Holland took the brave decision pre-match to go all out for the win, playing a 4-3-3 formation, and it paid off.

At 2-0 Gillingham had midfielder Maher sent off, which Holland believes was a decisive factor in the win:

''I thought that was the decisive factor. I didn't think they would have a chance of pulling it back from 2-0 down with it being 10 vs 11.'' Holland told Crewealex.net.

''t is no exaggeration to suggest that we could have scored double the goals we actually did this afternoon. The major difference was that we were creating chances and actually putting them away.

''It wasn't about individuals, it was a real team effort and everyone can be pleased with their contribution. We passed the ball really well and that was the real plus from the game. We looked like a Crewe side, passing and moving it around.''

The Alex now face Hartlepool at home next weekend and a win would surely put the ball firmly in the Alex's court in the race for survival.
