Roberts To Go Under The Knife

Gary Roberts' season could be cut short after it was found he needs a double hernia operation.

The midfielder had been complaining of pain in the groin area but it wasn't till further examination after the Port Vale game on Tuesday that the injury was discovered.

It now means that Roberts will require surgery sooner or later, but Holland is hoping to put it off till the summer so he has Roberts for the crucial run-in.

Holland told crewealex.net: 'He felt some soreness after the game against Port Vale on Tuesday evening and he has not trained since, which makes him a doubt for tomorrow's trip to Gillingham. We will have to see how he feels this morning because he is a durable solider'

However, Holland admits that any deterioration of the injury will mean Roberts will need surgery earlier, which will end his season.

'Hopefully, he will be able to delay the operation until the summer if he can remain relatively pain free. If it becomes too uncomfortable or will cause further damage then he will have to cut short his season.'
