'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Ben Blasts Ridiculous Comment

Ben Williams has explained why he answered back to fans criticism during the Carlisle home game. The 25 year old keeper says he couldn't let a ridiculous comment lie during the match, so put the fan 'in his place.

So far there has only been one side to the story released, some nearing a complete script for a Die Hard movie, but Williams has now told Radio Stoke of his side.

The 'keeper told Radio Stoke: 'I realise that fans are entitled to their opinion but in this instance someone shouted something ridiculous and I took exception to that.

'I think he wanted me to pick the ball up outside my area - if he wants me to get sent off I'll do that.

'I can't just let that lie and because of the stupidity of the comment I felt that I had to put him in his place, but at the end of the day all I can worry about is doing my job as Crewe's goalkeeper.'

With all the criticism leveled at Ben this season, it hasn't helped that he now now refused to sign a new contract till the summer at the earliest. Ben hinted on Radio Stoke that it's down to if Crewe remain in League One or not;

'The club have made a brilliant offer but I want to wait until the summer. The club agree that we should wait but I want nothing more than for Crewe to be in League One next year.'
