'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Alex Up For Football League Award

Crewe Alexandra have been nominated for the 'Most Admired Club Award'. Crewe are up against Brighton, Ipswich, Norwich, Reading and Southend with the result to be announced at an award ceremony on March 5th. The panel will comprise of representatives from the Football League, the LMA, FourFourTwo magazine, the PFA, Supporters Direct, Football in the Community as well as other key partners.

The award is the second nomination involving Crewe Alexandra after Dario Gradi was nominated for the 'Contribution to Football Award'. Votes for this award have already been cast by listeners of Five Live, with Dario just one of three nominees for the award. The other nominees are Huddersfield's Academy Director Gerry Murphy and Bradford City's David Wetherall.

Gordon Taylor, PFA Chief Executive, said, "There are some players who will simply not dive but, just as there are clubs where dirty tricks seem to be encouraged, there are others where fair play is a watchword. Look at Crewe Alexandra. We have a Bobby Moore Fair-Play Award and Crewe must have won that around 7 or 8 years out of the last 15. That is down to the manager Dario Gradi who instils his own virtues in his players. They respect their opponents, they respect the referee and they respect their manager. That's what we want."

The other awards consist of:
