Barnard Wishes Crewe Well

Former loanee Lee Barnard says he hopes the Alex can avoid relegation, as he settles into his new club Southend. The former Spurs striker spent the first half of the season, bar his two month injury, at the Alex before leaving to make the permanent move to Southend United in January.

Barnard wasn't quite the saviour most expected, as the Alex spent two months trying to sign the 23 year old last summer, but his effort was certainly appreciated by the Gresty Road faithful.

Now at Southend, Barnard already has four goals in his first five league appearances for the Shrimps and looks like a bargain, after signing for a reported fee of £35,000.

Asked about his previous loan spells though, Barnard was quick to wish the Alex well.

'I scored my first senior goal at Stevenage, which was memorable and I felt I did well at Orient too. I did everything but score there and it was the same at Northampton. Thankfully at Crewe I scored a few before getting injured. They are a great club and I hope they can avoid relegation.' Barnard told givemefootball.com.
