Carlisle Take It To The League

Carlisle United will ask the Football League to look at yesterday's late postponement after the league game was called off an hour before kick off due to a frozen pitch.

No official version of events have been given regarding yesterday but reports suggest that at least two inspections were made in the morning which deemed the pitch playable.

Whatever happened, Carlisle are angry that it took till 2pm to call the match off. With Carlisle fans making the 3 hour trip down, most would have been at or near the ground before they heard of the postponement and Carlisle managing director John Nixon says they will pursue the issue with the football league.

He told the Carlisle official site: 'I think that we are all extremely disappointed in the timing of the decision. Our fans have travelled in numbers once again, so we will vigorously pursue the issue, on their behalf, with the Football League on Monday. Obviously we can say more on the matter once that has been done.'

Not Much They Can Do Though Is There?

Not really. They can fine us... but for what? It's the ref's decision, one he could have made at 9am. They could give the ref a slapped wrist, but if he says the pitch could have improved enough between 9am and 2pm then who are the FL to disagree? Just a huge over reaction, happening all too often with postponed games too. Look at Leeds. No-one wanted the game off, unfortunately it happened. Crewe Alex FC come off this the worst with all the expenses, not Carlisle.
